Our first event of 2026 will shine a light on an often-overlooked area of planning that is facing a quiet but critical crisis: cemeteries and deathscapes. Despite their vital role as community, environmental, and cultural infrastructure, these spaces are frequently neglected in planning discussions.
We’ll be joined by Dr Katie McClymont, Associate Professor in Urban Planning at UWE Bristol, as she explores the current state of England’s cemeteries, the ongoing burial space shortage, and why cemeteries should be recognised as critical assets by planners and the planning system.
